We recently acquired a '90/'91 2.3 e NG Audi coupe, manual, front drive and with the intention of enjoying a bit of tinkering decided to make a bit of a mini project. After various points were addressed, ie, leaking door rubbers, smashed headlights, soaking wet interior carpet underlay etc, etc, we were fiddling about when the engine just stopped as if the key was switched off.
We now have no spark and no fuel pump getting power.
We checked out the fuel pump relay by opening it up and physically making the contacts meet and hey presto the pump primes up.
On advice given we ordered up a tested replacement ignition control unit as found behind the nearside ankle kick panel, fitted and tried again to no avail.

I am of the opinion that something tells the spark to spark and the pump to pump and whatever this is, aint not doin' it.

We have a good new battery, good new fuel in the tank, new fuel filter fitted and new ignition switch and barrel fitted, all fuses checked ( unless we missed one somewhere )

Am I missing something obvious here, we have had a lot of advice, ie , have you got petrol in it, have you changed the spark plugs, dizzy cap etc, etc, but nobody seems to be listening to the fact that we have two issues, spark AND fuel, there must be a connection common to both sides of the system.
What am I missing

Many thanks

Stuart
