    Default Fault - 00810 - Sensor 1/2 for Brake Pressure – 10-09-2012,08:50 AM
    Hi All

    Yesterday I started my car from cold and after releasing the electronic parking break I was faced with the engine management light (Parking Brake malfunction please refer to manual). When I got back home I did a VCDS autoscan the following errors were witnessed. Please ignore the Digital radio fault as I have recently upgraded my factory RCD300 to RCD510. I have not done any other modifications. Thank you for reading and as much help would much appreciated

    Do you have any other faults at all?

    There is a common issue with the ABS/brake pressure switches failing and a repair kit has been issued.

    Have a look through this forum for posts that mention "G201"

    I may be wrong but I don't think there is a brake pressure sensor that can be replaced on the passat B6. I think it's integrated into the ABS unit. Crasher may know for sure.

    O.P. Use vcds to read the pressure live data from the abs, block 005 I think. With no foot on the pedal you should get a constant zero. I suspect you will see an up and down value rather than constant zero. If this is the case you need a new pump. eek!

    Depending on the ABS unit, the switch is either a part of it, or fitted to it externally. I thought there was a repair kit for most models now as it was quite a big issue when they started going wrong. It was around the £200 mark last time this came up. Things may have changed since then though.

    If it is a new pump that's needed, there are various outfits who will refurb/adapt the old one for a lot less than the price of the £1k+ replacement.

    Hi Guys

    Thanks to all that have responded.

    So as mike suggested, I cleared the codes, disconnect battery and touch cables together for 30sec or so. reconnect drive and see what happens. The fault came back this morning,

    Fault - Instrument cluster - Beep sound followed by the following lights and message on MDF, Coil light flashing - Parking symbol alight (round circle with a letter P and a line though it) - ESP symbol alight, and message displayed "Parking Brake Fault please refer to manuals"

    I'm getting zero on the Brake pressure sensor could this still be a ABS pump fault??? I have made some enquires with companies that recon they have all said that they can not recondition the passat ABS pump only golf versions. (so no repair kit available for mine). I also, phoned vw and they said no repair kit available for mine, only a new one at ...........£1500 ex-vat. I would really like to be sure that it is the ABS unit that has failed and not something simple (like a switch/sensor). Help?

    Ouch!

    Starting with the fault code that remains from the original post have you done what the Ross Tech Wiki suggests?

    18061/P1653/005715 - Ross-Tech Wiki

    Possible Solutions
    Check Brake Electronics Control Module (J104) for Fault Codes
    VCDS > Select > 03 - Brake Electronics > Fault Codes - 02
    The new code - 18255/P1847/006215 - Ross-Tech Wiki - suggests the same procedure too

    The ABS code - 01316 - Ross-Tech Wiki - has a few things to try too.

    IANAM (I am not a mechanic) but it's all pointing towards a buggered ABS pump.

    Do the above things first though and report back.

    You need to run more tests on the brake pressure sensor. If it is 0.0 bar at idle with no pedal press, what is it when you press the pedal. If the pressure is not going up and down when the brake pedal is pressed/released then the sensor is not working and the pump needs replacing.

    e.g.

    11:20:07 Group 005


    0.00 bar Brake Pressure Sensor
    SteerAng lnit Steering Angle Sensor Condition
    OFF ASR Button
    BLS OFFf Brake Light Switch (F)

    So pressure is 0.00 Bar when Brake Light Switch is off.

    What is brake pressure sensor reading with brake Light Switch On?


    You will need to do this a few times to get several brakes on/off results for comparison.
