    Hi,

when trying to start my car, I have an error "Steering column locked, go to garage". By reading on the net, I assume this module is faulty and can be replaced separatly without the whole steering column.
But my issue is that my car is totally blocked (impossible to trigger ignition) thus I'd like to either find a trick to bypass the first error or change the part my self. (serial# 3C0905861J plus N 91023802).
Assuming I change the controler, what are the next steps ?

    - would I be able to restart the engine and drive ?
    - should I do a reset with a diag ?
    - I read that a reprog of the keys should be done. Why ? Is it risky and easy ? how to do that ?

    thx
    JD

You probably just need a new steering lock which is about £60 but you can't code it in without the SKC and VW won't tell you it. In theory the skc can be extracted by an aftermarket program but I haven't seen anyone do this and change a steering column lock. So far the only place is a dealer and they charge about £250 to do it plus the lock.

thanks, I'm impressed by the details

however I still don't know if after replacement of the component, why coding is necessary

I'll try first a spray cleaner...

here are my faults codes (in case it rings a bell)

These two are a little odd.

Some of those faults look like someone has been playing with the controllers/wiring. Clear everything and see what comes back. The steering column lock 'knows' what the skc/vin is and this must be taught/adapted to the new lock and only VW can do it. If it is a faulty lock, you should get it working with some contact cleaner.
