    Hi Everyone.

A Newbie here, so please bear for few moments!

Have a 07 1.9 TDI, with 90k on clock, and noticed for a while that it vibrates and shakes noticeably when idle (rpm stays around 810). Had it checked by an independent, fully serviced, diagnosis reported two faults, air flow meter (changed today but not much change in vibration). The other fault says "misfire in cylinder 3" which garage quoted as maybe the injector. got mad when I told it costs £600 to change/repair! Was looking at injector failure & recall issue topics here in last couple of hours but not sure whether vw change injectors on this model as part of recall?

Any idea what could be the most common reason for the vibration on this engine?

My worry is that I commute on Monday and Friday from home to work which is a 400 miles round, and worry it may cut off on road..

    Thanks Everyone

1.9 engines are not part of injector recall. I would get a proper vcds engine scan done before you spend more money. Never change things just because you have fault codes. You change things once you know WHY you have a fault code. It is rare for injectors to fail on this engine.

Thanks Martin. I thought (or I hoped so) that I have it done when I was there, but googlling seems to result in more comprehensive results from the look. Though I did see the fault messages on laptop saying about misfire problem.

Any idea where I can do a proper one? one that can tell me WHY there is fault?

Ask on here for somone local with vcds to scan your car. You need an autoscan as well as a check on a few engine measuring blocks. This still won't tell you why! you have the fault. The 'why' comes with experience. If you you get a scan and post the results on here, others will look and offer suggestions about 'why'.
Your problem used to be caused by a damaged or failing wiring loom in the cylinder head but 2007 and only 90K seem a bit soon for this problem. You could have a duff injector, this does happen. It could be a mechancal problem if the wrong oil has been used in the past. There are lots of possibilities which is why you need the scan.

    Thanks again Martin,

I wonder I may have used not the original oil last time I did service, 3 months ago. Can you tell me what problems may arise from a "Bad" oil, so I can better look into it when I take it to the scan?

    Cheers,

Its unlikely that 3 months on the wrong oil will have done any harm but you should change it. These pd engines must have the correct oil or the cams will be damaged and they connect to the injectors. Long term use of the wrong oil will lead to a big repair bill on a pd engine. You need a scan to tell you exactly what the engine ecu thinks is happening with the injectors.

I've got an unused spare injector if you need one for much less than new

Does the car still vibrate when you press down the clutch whist idle?
I've covered 145K in my 1.9TDI and never experienced any Injector issues.

Further examination(prper diagnosis) showed it's not the injector. Interestingly it doesn't vibrate when cold. Only when warm. Took it to Dealer and they reckon it's flywheel. Don't know shat to do because it's really expensive to fix that.

That is possible, other things I would point you too are.....

1 - Check the rear seat behind you for fuel pump humming, you should hear it but not loudly with an ear pressed to the seat, normally worse as the fuel level is lower.

2 - Chuck a fuel treatment in half a tank of fuel and ride it around and get some thrusting action on the motorway when it's safe to do so.
