I posted on this site just after Xmas whether anyone has managed to get their M/T gearbox oil changed. As I didn't get any repies I guessed that this isn't a very common procedure and I know Audi has no mention of changing the oil in any service schedule.. only checking the level, as these are supposedly ‘sealed for life’.

My car (A3 2004 2L FSI) was due for an interim service earlier this month and even though there was nothing wrong with the gearbox, I asked if they could also change the gearbox oil as it was coming up to 77k. But I wanted genuine VAG synthetic oil, not any old stuff that’s available.

All I can say is if you haven't changed the gearbox oil then DO IT! - It’s transformed the gear change and the transmission noise is virtually silent and the car feels so much smoother to drive. The irony is that I thought all was normal but since I have had it back it’s like a different car, silky smooth gear change and quiet.
