My Polo's been very slowly leaking oil for a while now, but it's within the supposed limits of 'normal' in the handbook. Normally, when the light comes on in the dash cluster (orange, not red) the level has just dipped below the lower limit. I always use VW 505 or 507 spec oil, and I'm servicing it annually but to longlife specifications. However, the light has started coming on when the level is fine. It came on today and the level was about halfway between the two markers on the dipstick. The wiring to the oil sensor looks fine, but I guess the sensor itself could be damaged, or the light could be something else. I don't have a code reader (anyone got one in Bristol?) but what should I look out for?

The engine is an AZQ one- 1.2, 12v, 65PS. It's a 2002 9n, and done 130,000 miles, which I think is possibly heading towards the stage where it becomes very expensive to run...
    2002 Polo 9n 1.2 65PS. Basic but it's better than the train!

Planning to get it code read, but it sounds unlikely to be anything too dangerous!

It's not far off a service, I'll do it then. I can put up with checking the oil levels more frequently until then. Am I right in thinking that if the light turns off, then there isn't a code stored though, and therefore it must be a level issue?

The code may (wouldn`t worry about it)stay but the light shouldn`t bother you again.
