    Hi,

Problem with wife's car, and she is getting grumpy! Please help.

    1999 Passat 2.3 v5 Engine AGZ.

Drove home, parked, switched off, all good no problems.
Tried to restart 2 hours later, turns over but doesn't fire, not a cough even. (normally starts every time, half turn of the crank).

All other electrics seem to work ok.

    Code reader shows
000668 Battery Power Voltage Supply Terminal 30 (0668)
    000282 Throttle Position Actuator V60 (0282)
    001314 Engine ECU (1314)
    000522 Engine Coolant Temperature Sender G62 (0522)

I think the last is a red herring, temp gauge stopped working a year ago so a non OEM sender was fitted and has worked perfectly ever since, does the car know it's not genuine?

I figure if the first three codes are related, I don't have a good voltage supply to the Throttle body, so the ECU is upset and won't let the engine fire?

But where do I look?? and how do I test? Any pointers gratefully received.

    Many Thanks,

    Chris

I had this problem. In my case it was due to the battery comparment in front of the windscreen flooding and causing wireing faults due to corosion. The drain holes for that chamber are conveniently place under the battery and under the brake servo. (Yes they use two in case one blocks).

It requires wire tracing and patience.

Many thanks for your reply, I don't think that is the answer in my case. We have owned this car many years and I have always kept the pelham? drains clear (thanks to dire warnings of what happens if you don't).
More checking has shown, Cam shaft (1) seen to turn through oil filler hole - Very good spark, so ignition electrics seem OK. - Spark plugs come out damp and smelling of fuel after turning engine over. Shouldn't ECU stop the injectors when it doesn't fire?
With Fuel, a spark, and compression why doesn't it at least cough?

Anyway, I've lost patience with it now. 160k miles, parking rash on a door, and it's age, I figure on a good day as a runner it's pretty worthless so I am using this as an excuse to buy "Madam" something newer. Hate letting it beat me but life's too short!

I think that is wise. Don't chuck good money at it.

RIP poor Passat, maybe you have got some space to break it? as spare parts you could get around £1000 back on it just an idea

Unfortunately no room, so it's got to go. replacement car arrives tomorrow, sad really, first time in over 20 years that we won't have a Passat.
