Air-Con & Digital Display Problem

Hi All,

Please can anyone offer some help and advice with the air conditioning on my Audi A4 1.8SE its an N plate 95, the first issue which has always been a problem is the digital display for the climate contol and heating it doesnt light up atall or if it does it flicks on and then goes off.
Is this something that can be repaired and if so whats the best way of going about it as it's a real pain not been able to see whats going on.

On a second point, I had the air-con regassed last year but it only lasted two weeks before it started blowing warm air again I dont want to pay to have it regassed again when it will just leak out does anyone know what the likely problem will be with this?

I should have sorted it sooner as when it was regassed a UV dye was put through but it probably wont show now.

Aha, had exactly the same 2 probs with my 1996 1.8T. Flickering panel on climate control, how good are you with a soldering iron, what you need to do is to remove the front panel by pulling the whole control sysyem forward, the front panel is held on by 4 screws from behind. Once the front panel is off, just re solder (very carefully) all connections on the back, i think there are 16 or so. Did mine several years ago and has been fine since. Air con leak, mine is from inside the car, i think its the evaporator, quoted silly money to have it done and i am too chicken to pull out the whole dash assy! Any one know of a sealing fluid that can detect and repair minor leaks? let us know.

Came across your post by chance looking for something entirely unrelated;
I took my '98 model A4 in for air-con regassing and the mechanic told me it also needed a new fan (seperate to the main fan) and hence why the air con was blowing warm. After re-gassing, he said it would blow cold but not to use it for any length of time while this fan wasn't working or the pressure would cause the gas to leak again and thus would need regassing again !

In a nutshell then, check the other fan is working properly.
