Got flashed by roadside camera today. All I want to know is how long do they have to send me a letter?

I believe there is a legal time frame in which they have to notify you otherwise they can legally enforce the summons/fine etc on you... is that correct?

If so, what is the time limit?
If i recieve the leter after this time has lapsed, is there a standard response I should send?

I hate the waiting period involved. I can deal with the outcome as I'll get what the law sees fit.... unless it's a ban, need my car for work (38 miles each way)

    Thanks

    Correctomundo, you were right

"The police must serve the notice to arrive within 14 days on the registered keeper. As long as it is posted (within that time limit) 1st class, this is presumed to be good service (though this can be challenged)."

You can challenge this by asking them to prove who was driving, its not down to you to tell them who was driving. 'You have the right to remain silent' and you do!!

I've always thought about ha right (sincce I was kid and heard them use it on The Bill)

In any given situation you could remain silent as you are excercising your right to remain silent. They can't persecute you for that... but then then there's the thing about failing to cooperate with the police/courts etc.

I've also been flashed on occasions before, never had anything through either. Can't remember if this time it flashed once or twice.

first ask for photo evidence this is then proof of who was driving
if the driver cannot be seen clearly then its a case of who was driving the car at the time.
ie how many people had access to the car keys ?.
and of course you were with the missiues at the time in the pub

Bit risky as I know the police cottoned onto this one aages ago and also the one where you had a guest/visitor come over from abroad and s/he took the car without consent. Could get done for peverting the court of justice.

"We have got a speeding ticket for our car but we cannot remember who was driving?

It is the responsibility of the last known registered keeper of the vehicle to provide details of who was driving at the time of the alleged offence. Failure to do so could result in a fine.
If you do not know who was driving then you should contact the Central Ticket Office of the force concerned who will advise you what action to take as policy may vary from force to force. Photographic evidence (if available) may resolve the issue."

if it makes you feel any better, ive been flashed 9 times and never received a single letter, all on different cameras. Each letter costs the police force £5 I think which includes the processing of the photo etc, so they usually think twice before sending you out a letter..

However if you were doing something silly like 50 in a 30, you'll most likely get the letter....

    hope for the best!
