Care to expand on that post Turpal? Just as an interested party with no experience of VW/Audi petrol engines I'm keen to hear what your reasonong is.

Personally I've driven both diesel & petrols and I have to say I like the way the diesel delivers it's power, there's nothing quite like the feeling when the turbo kicks in in a diesel engine. It's also miles better as a motorway cruiser if tat's the kind of mileage you do.

To cut the long story short petrol engines not as reliable as diesel more powerfull engines have different temper etc.not to mention mpg.Unless its the ald school one like my mk2 golf gti,God I love those cars and are bulletprove and simple as had 5 of those.Drove my mk2 golf ones wiv fanbelt gone a few miles on motorway to nearest exit and it felt like small explosions under bonnet so when parts store opened got a new belt and never had a problem with headgasked or smokey valve stemseals.

Diesel everytime for me. I often consider the 1.8T but the reliability, power delivery and mpg just can't drag me away. The only benefit of the petrol for me is the noise The diesel does sound tractor like, but who cares haha
