Can anyone give me advise on this....

Driving home las night i hit a large pot hole which has blown my nice new tyre and knacked my wheel a bit, however the most worrying thing is as soon as it happened the 'check brake pads warning light' came on, the one on the drivers display that looks like a wheel with three lines at either side.

At first i just thought it was the impact that might have just shocked it to come on, so as i was changeing the wheel i checked everything was o.k, and it was, nothings lose and the pads are nearly new.

So i linked it up to VAGCOM cleared the code thinking that this would turn off the light, but it hasn't and now the code isn't there anymore( and no i didn't write it down), but the lights still on?!?

Anyone any ideas? Might something have come loose that i didn't notice?

    Thanks in advance

Try unplugging the pad sensor & putting it back together again, then go for a drive & then re-test on Vag-Com to see if the code has re-appeared. Another option is to disconnect the battery for 10mins to clear the ECU etc.

Also - if the said hole is not too far from you, go and take some pictures, write a nice letter with pictures, times, and estimate of cost to fix your car and send it to the council who look after that road.

I did that for a blowout caused by a pothole and got my money for a new tyre.

Nice, i didn't know you could do that... how do you go about proving that i did it there as nobody saw me?

Also more importantly where abouts is the sensor that i need to disconnect and reconnect???

just by writing to them, and having the pictures, times route taken etc.

it can go only one of two ways - yes we'll pay, or on ya bike.

No, only that you wont be able to listen to the greatest hits of Barbara Streisand for a short while!! Its a common fix for many many cars showing odd electrical ailments, it basically just re-sets everything. Think of it like pressing ctrl-alt-del on your computer!

Right, sorted it! Thanks for the help!

Heres what i did... removed the wheel, looked about at the back of the caliper, raised up on a little metal is the sensor connection (theres nothing else to confuse it with), took it apart, blew in it, cleaned it and put it all back together.

And it works, the light is off with no need for VAGCOM or disconnecting the battery.

Now for buying a new tyre and trying to get some money back off the council!
