tapping noise

I have recently noticed that when my audi a3 2005 is under load there is a sort of tapping noise. It does not happen when the car is stationary only seems to happen in low gear at slow speeds. I have had a friend who is a mechanic look at it as i thought it might of been valve clearance to start with but he said seeing as it dont happen when stationary can rule out valve clearance. The only other thing i can think of is the injectors. The car in question is 2005 A3 special edition has anyone else had or know what this is as seeing as i know the noise is there its getting on my nerves now

its a 1.6 petrol

Could be an exhaust leak but diagnosing noises in this manor is nigh on impossible. If a mechanic driving the car is unsure what chance do we have! There are four different types of A3 8P engine so we could do with the engines type code.

well the engine number is BGU 173599

starting to really annoy me now as i know the noise is there but aint got a clue what it is

It could just be the carbon canister recirculation valve clicking when it meant to.

really annoying as this car was a present to myself after my last tour of afghan and i dont want to have wasted the money
