I take it this would be a priority to get this done now, will it help the slight jerk on acceleration from standstill?

    Thanks

Save dancing around and take it to a main dealer to be done. It's not an easy process requiring temperature readings, a precise process to be followed, raised ramps, etc etc. Had mine done 2 services back and it cost £149 at the dealer so it's not obscenely expensive. It must be done every 40k miles without fail, sooner if possible.

The slight jerk could be the hydraulics on their way out (hope it's not). No matter what though, first stop should be to change the fluid.

you need to test the oil for glycol contamination firstly

if clear drain and refill with 5 litres of oil and run the basic setting of the box

if the fault still occurs and you have ruled out any engine issues then its likely the input shaft is defective

however if there are fault codes post them up as I have recently replaced the gearbox control unit for a similar complaint but used a company called ecu testing to fix the control unit £200.

Interesting you should say the input shafts is defective, as the guided diagnostics on my original box that did that pointed towards the hydraulics - which once replaced made a difference for about all of 150 miles before the problem came back

Did ECU testing do a good job on the ECU? I don't need one, but it's always worth having in your back pocket should it be needed

Yes used them three times for multi chronic control units and never had any issue just takes them a week to sort it out and send it back

Hi Slee02, I have 2003 A4 Avant Sport, CVT. I have the same problem: from the start it jerks a bit, then going to the 2nd it jerks and through to 3rd it jerks. Nevertheless, its revs are jumping by around 100-200revs on steady 30, 40, 50 mph speed. I went to respectible garage with diagnostics equipment and all sorts, as to do diagnostics only at my local Audi garage cost £250+VAT. They did the diagnostics, but found no faults (no codes), therefore, they told me that it is mechanical problem. So I am chasing garage where I bought the car (just over a month ago!!! ) and going to give them back to sort it out. I checked the history, it had gearbox oil changed arround 2 services ago, so I recon its gonna be costly... I hope yours is not gonna be as bad...

i had a rebuilt transmission at ~110,000 and all has been good until now at 140,000 the car is displaying similar symptoms to those above. Mainly, once the car has warmed, sometimes there is the usual smooth unnoticed gear change, other times, especially prevalent when under load going up a hill, the gear change will feel clunky as if its missed a beat or something. On the motorway a noticeable jump in the rev of about 100 revs and a momentary missing feeling, again mostly when going uphill. This will occur when crusing at around the 1500 rev mark.

Now, although the car has only done 30,000 since the last transmission build, at which time i also replaced the ecu for a new one(wish i had heard of ecu testing then !!!) this was done over 2 and a half years ago, so i am hoping that a double flush oil change will do the trick. Has that worked for anyone?

I am secretly hoping i wont have to fork out for the seven plate clutch but i believe this is probably the likely culprit.

It should not be doing this if the rebuild was 100%but ATF change may help.Hope so but glad mines a Tiptronic
