Well after 2 years of loyal service my a4 2.0t blew up (2005), the tensioner on the cam chain on the back of the head failed meaning the cams went out of timing etc so all valves bent casing cracked as chain punched out etc.

so looking for a new engine mine is bgb and i know other a4 code is bwe i think and would both be straight swap,

    however i cant find either,

but can find a bwa from an a3, i know i will need to swap sump and inlet manifold etc but just checking oil inlet out lets for turbo on block are same so all aux items off a4 will fit onto a3 block?

anyone done this any issues and is the bare block head same?

The A3 is transverse and the A4 is longitude.I wouldn't think it would fit without a lot of felting.

    YES IT DOES FIT

i have no option so went for a BWA 2007 a3 engine,

    just had to swap sump,
    oil pickup,
    thermostat housing,
    general coolant hoses,
    engine mounts,
    cam covers,

thats about it, all in and working well, much quieter than old engine but could be refinements that came with the BWA engine code and the internal changes, apparently it had different valve springs and piston tops to make them more refined/quiter for direct injection petrols

    Hello!

Can you help about this problem:

Does VW Passat 2.0TFSI 2007year 147kw (BPY engine) fit to Audi A4 2.0TFSI (BGB engine)??

    If yes, whats the differences?

Sorry to hear about your car, was it a 2.0TFSI? I have one the same age, did you have your cam belt done etc at the correct interval, are there any other preventative measures that could be taken to avoid this happening?

I may be wrong but aren't these engines also used in Golf GTI's?
