    Hi All,

I need to replace the rear tyres on my A6 Avante 2.7tdi (fwd) with fronts due to be changed in a couple of thousand miles as well. Typically I've always put on very good quality tyres on my cars but wondered if there are cheaper good quality alternatives?

So I guess whats the best tyre bang for buck that everyone would reccomend?

    Thanks for all advice,

    Mike

depends on size of your tyres, but Falken F452 for summer use. Definitely dunlop SP SPort 3d for winter use. Failing that, continental sport contact 3s for all year round (but pricey)

    Thanks for that.

Tyres are 225 50 R17 and to be honest on reccomendation from several sources I have gone with the Kumho SPT KU39. Worked out £105 per tyre fitted, £50 cheaper than the Dunlops I last put on, and have seen a lot of good feedback on both handling and life of the tyre.

Apparently both VW and Audi and BMW are now starting to use these on some of their new cars (or so I've been told...).

We'll see how I get on with them.

    Best,

    Mike

Let us know how you get on, that's a really good deal. I spent £138 a tyre on 245/18 Avons http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Avon/ZZ5.htm

Have done 2,000 miles on them - better grip and less noice than the £200 Goodyears that were there before. Well happy.

These http://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s323p...R18_97Y_XL_TL_ will be my next tyres.....used both them and Camskill before. Tyres are fantastic....great wear and really good grip in all conditions....and at 125 quid each, a decent price too. Not a budget tyre, but a very decent mid-range. Oh and Camskill gets my vote too!

Just checked the price of those Hankooks at 3 of the favourite mail order companies... cheapest was £156 plus delivery...

That's a great price from Camskill..

They are also pretty good for brake pads and discs......got myself a set of EBD discs and pads from them and were easily the cheapest I could find...and their customer service is second to none.

I'd also go down the Michelin PS3 route or Continental Sport Contact 2 or 3.

I always suggest this as I'm really happy with the tyres & prices I pay, but I found a local tyre yard that sells & fits premium tyres for £30 a corner. The tyres I've found so far have been virtually new - in fact they could pass for new there's been that much tread on them. That way I get proper premium tyres at a fifth of the cost. Anyway, just another possibility for you.

    Wow, amazing price.

But secondhand tyres............personally, not a route I'd ever go down. If I were running a small cheap banger for town journeys only, maybe. But for a large heavy premium car that takes me and my family on long journeys, I want to be sure of the provenenace of the only contact patches I have with the road. False economy.

    IMHO only, of course....
