    Hi All,

I have recently purchased a 5 door VW Polo 1.4 TDI with AC. First impressions, rides and handles extremely well, supple ride, and comfortable seats.

Joined this forum to help find some answers, from a few technical experts.

Can anyone show/tell/describe, where the Air Con Pressure Switch is? Is it a bumper removal job?
Are there any known issues of water ingress at the rear passenger side (NSR) in the boot? Around the rear light cluster?

Thats all, apart from those two issues, the car performs and functions very well, at 142k miles with FSH.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

    Kind regards
    Ahmed.

Rear light cluster leaks are very common on the 9N1 which is what I presume your car is?

the sensor is on the pipe near the right hand engine mount and is easily changed as its fitting has a Schrader type valve, the part number is 1K0 959 126 D, £53 approx.

    Hi Crasher,

    Many thanks for your reply.

If you stand looking into the engine bay, do you mean the left side engine mount, or right side.
If you sit in the drivers seat, the left and right are opposites as opposed to the above.

Yesterday, I dried out the boot area, pulled the left side trim back and saw water, with a puddle right underneath a small rectangular hole where towards the outer shell underneath the light cluster. Used a cloth to dry out the water, but still not clear where the water has been coming in, the seals on the light unit were bone dry.

Only thing I can think of is the the little seals holding the light cluster in, as they are not flush with the body after refitting.

Also, after looking thoroughly behind the engine, I can see lots of residual oil around, and down in the front left side presumably near the inter-cooler.

Is this common? I'm wondering, why the car stutters and jerks when accelerating between 30-60 mph. Then from there to 90mph, its fine. Only when accelerating this happens. Power seems fine, it accelerates all right, but there is a slight hesitation.

    Thanks
    Ahmed.

The left of the car is the left and the right the right, never changes whichever way you look at it, sitting in the seat looking forward. Anyway, the mount on the left is the gearbox mount. Oil seeping out from spring loaded intercooler couplings is quite normal and nothing to worry about.

Give the area on the bodyshell a good clean where the seals touch. Mine started leaking during this lovely weather we've been having, and it was due to a buildup of grime between the seal and the bodywork. Mine is missing the lower of the two clips that hold the cluster in and I'm too cheap to replace it, so there's not as much pressure holding the cluster in as there should be. It's fine now that I've cleaned up the seal.

Also worth noting is that the rear windows on the 5-doors don't always go up properly, and then leak. The entire pane twists within the frame, with the rear side dropping slightly. It then gets stuck when you wind it back up again. It can look fine from inside the car, but there's a 2cm or so gap on the outside. If you wind the window down a bit, and grab hold of the top of the glass and push it towards the front of the car, then it'll go back up again properly.
