Pump timing is out, get a good mechanic that knows how to work on these and has VCDS to adjust the pump: clockwise to advance and anticlockwise to retard the timing...

I don't know love- not a clairvoyant ! It could be that it wasn't set up properly from the start or the VP44 pump is on it's last legs and cannot hold timing anymore. Get it to someone that has fully registered VCDS and they know how to check and adjust timing, if it needs adjusting then adjust it a little and see how the car behaves !

Iv had the car on vcds and the mechanic said the pump is on the last legs. Although he reckons the car goes in limp mode due to an possible air leak. He couldn't investigate as it was to busy. Tried to find this air leak for the past three days using diffident techniques what I could think of, washing up liquid , easy start spray, smoke and couldn't find anything. I'm starting to doubt that is got an air leak. Car goes in limp mode soon as I select drive when the revs are droping without even moving.

Many many thanks for the offer. I'm in Manchester and will try to get it sort it round here. I got two weeks till i start my new job and hope is enough time. The mechanic is trying to find some space were to put my car and leave it with him for more investigations that's not gone happen till Thursday though. If anyone got any more ideas what I could try in the meantime I would appreciate. Specially if I miss anything with my air/vacuum leak search.
