Hi new forum member with a request for help..

, had my Passatt for over 4 years and never had a problem. Its a 97 1.8 petrol, but the last few days when starting from cold it initially only ticks over at about 600 revs rather than the normal 800 or so. This makes it appear to want to stall. As the temp rises so does the revs until it gets back to normal idle tickover and seems okay. Additional problem is under braking when you drop the clutch the revs drop to 600 or less and again appear to try to stall before recovering back up to 800. Appreciate any suggestions on what the potential problem/fix would be.

Check the coolant temp sensor and clean the throttle body.
    Search the forum for details.

Tried searching on the forum but found nothing similar. Will have a look at the coolant temp sensor as you suggest.

    thanks.

Hi herby0001, thanks for that thread link, seems I didn't quite work out the right wording for the search. Carbon build up in the throttle could be a good reason for what i am seeing, will go and work on that.
