    Hello all,

    This is my first post.

I am contemplating purchasing a new A4 Avant 2.0 TDI Quattro either an S line or a Black Edition. Are there any downsides that I haven't thought of with these cars? Are there any current issues? Does anyone have any realistic mpg figures? Do the 19" wheels give a harsher ride than the 18"?

I will appreciate any useful comments.

    Thank you

    Neil

    Hi Neil,

    Welcome to VWAF

I don't think there any issues with the current B8 facelift that I'm aware of but a few members to have the facelift so they should be along soon.

Mpg wise I have a 2012 A5 out on loan and it has the same 177bhp you'll be getting in your A4 albeit fwd and it's averaging mid 50s on a 50 mile journey at 70mph - I expect this to improve as the engine only had 2000 miles on it. Expect a little less as the quattro used more derv.

A good engine choice - this a5 can shift and due to the weight compared to my A6 dare I say it but it feels faster.

Not really relevant but here's a thread of the a6 owners combining about the poor mpg in their new a6's - https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=130978

The 19s will give a harsher ride than the 18s - I have 19s on my a6 and find the ride bone breaking (30mm sline drop) over rough ground but I've got use to it and on smooth roads it's acceptable.

Coming from our previous B7 S-line with 18" wheels our current B8 S-Line with 19" wheels rides much much better and is the first Audi on sports suspension I've had that is not jarring around town. However I'm pretty used to some rock hard Audis so this may be a tainted view, you need to try both.

I think mpg figures will come down a lot to how you use it. Our 3.0 TDI Quattroaverages about 40 but can be stretched to 45 on long motorway trips. I'd hope the 2.0 would be at least 5-10 mpg better than that. With the recent facelift I think all the engines got a bit more efficient as well.

What car have you got now?
    Dave

I've got an A4 S Line Avant with 18" on, much as I love it, I wouldn't have another s Line........... the ride is just too harsh on bumpy roads.

On flat autobahn's I bet its wonderful, rest of the time...... ouch!

But, I still adore the car. 118k in 30 months and still as good as the day I got it.
