Try giving the key a bit of a wobble with it running, it sounds like the ignition circuits loosing it's contact after the key's been released from starting. Are you getting any of the dash lights after you've started it (handbrake light etc.)?
If I'm right it'll be the ignition switch that needs replacing.

Hi,I have tried moving the ignition about with the engine running and the headlights on but nothing happens..I still have sidelights on with the engine running but no headlights no indicators no wipers..but when I stop the engine everything comes on..I have dashboard lights on handbrake and instrument panel is ok..as I said before that I left the headlights on and the buzza sounded that I had left the car with the headlights on when I came back they would not work with the engine running only with it off.. it just seems that it's something easy and silly because no trouble ever before till I did that...

If everything works, it can't be the fuses. Maybe some kind of ECU module corrupted. You could disconnect the battery, discharge all residual current by pressing horn or turning lights on, leave for 10 minutes and reconnect battery.

I agree with Euroslap`s comments that the ignition switch(electrical part) is faulty as this gives a terminal 15 supply to the relay for the headlights to come on.

Everything not needed to start the car loses power when you turn the key to the start position, if the key doesn't spring back far enough the lights etc wont work. Try turning they key back slightly when the engine starts. A new switch is cheap and easy enough to fit

Cheers pal I tried the key thing quickly last night before work but no joy ... Do you think it is likely to be the ignition switch then ?
