    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the board and this is my first post having just bought a Mk5 Golf GT TDI, which came with the standard cd player head unit. Ideally I want to upgrade it to an entertainment unit with video playback, Bluetooth and an iPod cable.

I went to my local dealer who was less than helpful, they told me that the genuine units won't do what I want because the vehicle doesn't have the necessary equipment inside for Bluetooth, so I'd have to get the system plus a Bluetooth console separately which would cost over £2000 through them.

Alternatively I can get the Kenwood DNX520VBT which does everything I need for £1000 but the iPhone plugs into the front of the unit, it's not a genuine device and still costs quite a bit.

Ideally what I want to do is get the relevant parts and retrofit my vehicle with a Multi-function steering wheel, RNS510 head unit, Bluetooth compatibility and a media interface for my iPhone.

From the prices I've found on eBay I believe I can do it for about the same price as the kenwood unit but it will be a lot of work and I'm not sure how to go on. Can anyone point me to the relevant guides or to someone who does these kinds of installations for a reasonable price?

    Any help would be welcome

Goto this site RNS-510 (MFD3) Navi System and do a lot of reading before asking any questions, try to keep it to a logical progress, i.e Main unit such as the steering wheel 1st then an RNS 510, then Phone/bluetooth modual ALL the info you need is on this site and some very knowledgable guys who will help.
This site is also very good, VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com - Powered by vBulletin but be carefull not to double up as some of the "guru's" run on both forums. Good Luck

My dealer is advertising a standard VW deal for a Kenwood double DIN unit with SatNAV, bluetooth and all the doodads for £999 fitted. The iPod cable is a few quid extra. The SatNav part allows you to download speed camera and other POI data, which is something you won't get with any original fit equipment like the over-priced RNS510.

You can find details of it on the Kenwood site. If your local dealer doesn't know about it PM me and I'll send you a scan of the VW flyer. See here for an intro Kenwood Electronics UK Ltd. | Car Electronics > VW/SEAT/Å*koda/VW Commerical Navigation

The unit also integrates with the MFSW, so I suggest you get that job sorted first.

As for the MFSW job, Richard has given you some good places to look at. Also try VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com - Powered by vBulletin where there is a MASSIVE thread with all the info and pitfalls. Also Mk5 Golf GTI - Index might be worth a look.

After................... oops, I've given you one of the same sites as Richard. What a berk.
I would really recommend the speed camera facility, having just opened the envelope on a 34mph 3-pointer from my local constabulary.
