by 7 speed do you mean multitronic ?
I would have the car scanned first to see if any faults are logged.
Also search on here for "multicronic"....

    Hi
I have the same issue with my car between 1500 - 2000 revs with regards to the juddering and someone on this site mentioned that it could be the flywheel? Hope not as it's an expensive job please let me know how you get on

When it judders, doz it make a subtle rotating noise?

Hey guys, I know it's the wrong forum, as I just bought 2003 A4 Avant 130 1.9 auto CVT (B6), but it has similar thing to the above: at the start-off it judders through 1st and 2nd, then seams like changing gears is smooth, but when I keep it steady: 30, 40, 50, revs unsteadily go up and down by 100-500 rpm. Nevertheless, at the acceleration it makes uncomfortable jump and seams it's ok afterwards.
If this is flywheel, then I am alright, I am prepared to change it myself, but if it is a gerbox, then I am a bit screwed, aren't I?
    Please help, someone!!!

Hey buddy, I would suggest that being a 2003 b6, you are experiencing the classic signs of multitronic(cvt) failing box, there is a specialist in Northampton.

And for the guy at the start of the thread, Jamie, do as Kite suggests and get a fault reading by vagcom ( vcds) , but don't panick after reading the multiCHronic tales as most of the multi/cvt issues were to do with pre 2005 models and as far as I can remember the issues were to do with not enough clutch packs, but on the post 2005 box and subsequently the 7 speed jobbies the clutch situation was resolved.

oh my, I understand that this obviously is the worst case of scenario- getting the box done. What is that Northampton chap's contacts, can you pm me? What does he charge for diagnostics/repair? Is it worth getting flywheel and clutch changed, what do you think?

Hi matey, I can't remember the guys trading name but if you do a forum archive search using a title such as " Northampton cvt specialist" or words to that affect you should find a link or reference to him, he has a very good name for sorting and advising on issues relating to the cvt auto, I believe he upgrades the box in some instances where required.
Hope thats a bit helpful, maybe he can advise you in relation to the dual mass flywheel and clutch as potentially that may be the issue
