    Hello everyone!

    I'm buying second hand A4 Avant with the 1.9 TDI engine with the BRB code. I googled and didn't found any information about the engine (just about 2.0 TDI with BRB engine code - is it possible?). Are there any known common faults worth of attention?

    I checked optional codes with http://www.igorweb.org/equidec/default.aspx and found;
    7GN = Emission standard, EU4, DPF preparation. Does it mean the DPF is installed or the car is just the DPF "ready"? Car is produced at the end of 2007.

    And the last question. The car has sport front seats with the manual height adjustment and some electric adjustment. What is it adjusted with the 4 way adjusting switch on the side of the seat?

    Seat with the 4 way switch (marked with the red circle):

    Thanks

    To be honest the 1.9 lump has been very reliable for me and never had any hassle in 2 years and 40k miles.

    Only slight niggles I have is that it is a little bit smokey when starting it from cold, but hey aren't all diesels like that and mines done 115k so its par for the course. I'd liked it to have a 6speed box, but 5 cogs is good enough. Its a little sluggish pulling away as its an 8v not 16v, but I use mine as a smooth ride home as opposed to using the girlfriends Bora for charging around in.

    Do run a check on the MPG on the trip computer as mine was slightly out by about 4-5mpg. Just fill it to the brim and do a few hundred miles and fill it up again and crank out the old calculator. You can adjust it with VAGCOM. I thought I was dreaming when the DIS said 55mpg when in fact it was really about 48/9mpg.

    The four way switch is probably lumbar support. Except when I was shopping for an A4 the switches only seemed to have 2 finger grooves. No doubt someone will correct me?!?

    Thanks mate!
    You are right! I can hear and feel the lumbar support when pushing up/down on the switch. But I don't hear or feel anything when pushing forward/backward on the switch.
    How do I move the seat leg support forward/backward?

    Silly question is there a handle you pull upwards on the front of the seat?

    royster they are two handles. One is on the right side to move seat forward or backward and the other handle is on the left. Is it the left one?

    Sorry misread your orginal question. Had a vectra SRI once with a similar feature of seat leg supports. As I remember with that I lifted the front of the leg support and gave it a gentle tug and it moved forward. I do vaguely remember looking at an S-Line a few years ago and being typically curious I did manage move the leg support so it does move. Just how I can't remember.

    I believe one handle must be used for setting the seat slope?

    Next silly question. Have you had a look in the owners handbook?

    No. I'm buying a car and the owners handbook is in Dutch. No need to say it about my Dutch knowledge
