guys i need some help i have just brought the car first problem. i ran out of diesel when guage was on almost half full, does anyone know if this was a recall as i have read similar recalls on a usa forum.? then a week later i noticed fuel dripping off of the bottom of the tank its running down from higher up on the tank on checking every time i stop only sometimes does this happen and it is not related to the amount of fuel in the tank.any ideas please all help greatly appreciated

Sounds like two unrelated problems...running out of fuel when it says half full is probably the fuel level sensor and its not uncommon problem. Just needs replacing. The dripping could be any one of a number of things but I'd start by lifting the back seat and theres two screw in openings to the tank - see if the seals on these are leaking. Other then that its anyones guess...leaking fuel return lines or actual damage to the tank maybe.

Before you start takeing.the car apart, you mention you just bought the car, if it was from a car dealer take it back amd tell them to fix it, if it was a private sale and tge seller witheld information regardimg a fault you still have recourse although a bit more difficult. Even in a private sale the seller by law is required to tell a prospective buyer of any known faults.

Probably worth checking if a previous leake has been patched up, other than that perhaps its an unfortunate coincidence of both faults occuring at the same time.
