Can anyone help with replacing a convenience module, is it just plug and play or will it need remotes programming to it etc...
I was thinking of re-locating the new one to a higher point like behind the glove box, has anyone done this?
    thanks all.

I can't help thinking it'd be an awful lot of palaver.

It appears to be pretty indisputable that the design of both the under-bonnet drainage and the cockamamie pollen filter housing leaves something to be desired, not to mention having a join in the rear washer pipe in just about the most ridiculous place imaginable.

The thing is that the ingress of rainwater only seems to become an issue after a certain length of time (and the consequent accumulation of muck and rotting vegetation) and the deterioration of one seal in particular.

I had two other C5 Avants from new before this allroad, and in the three years I had each of those there was never any hint of water getting in. Those cars were parked in the same drive, nose up the same slope - possibly the worst attitude for rainwater to pool in the worst places - and with probably pretty much the same amount of rain. Admittedly there are no overhanging trees here so the cars didn't collect tons of soggy compost, caterpillars, beetles, weevils and bird excrement washed down from the scuttle panel gutter, but it seems pretty clear from my experience at least that the troublesome filter housing seal will last for longer than three years before perishing and letting water into the inside.

If the two main drains under the battery and the brake servo are kept clear (a faff, but clearly not in the same league as replacing a set of little end bearings) and the pollen filter housing replaced (fifteen quid) after having been treated to a judiciously applied bead of silicone in the groove that locates on the rectangular flange on the top of the bulkhead, I reckon there's no reason why the inside shouldn't stay dry for a long, long time. Just as it does from new.

Unless, that is, the rear washer pipe pops its joint behind the carpet because the rear washer nozzle has become bunged up or because washer fluid has frozen in the pipe near the tailgate. A few turns of self-amalgamating tape at that joint in the passenger footwell ought to put paid to that.

    It's just a thought.

Hi Andy, would it just be the remotes that need programming into the new module or anything else? I am still tempted to make an extension lead out of the old module connector and a loom out of a breaker car and stuff the whole thing under the dash somewhere, or alternatively just fill the damn box with silicone sealant !
Is there somewhere on this forum that outlines what functions the module does so I can test the new one ...
    cheers

You need to provide any new module with soft coding which tells the module if there is 4 or 2 electric windows, sunroof, convenience closing, SCL and so on & code the keys, you will need VCDS to code all this info. have you looked at the module yet? there are 4 or 5 multiplugs all with numerous wires, very difficult to move, if it is water ingress fix the leak then replace the module. Mine was just a faulty module when it went No water, so I just replace the module and re-coded and keep an eye on the drain holes
