    Interesting.

    Lets hope its a good'un.

It would seem the every other Golf with the exception of both the MK1 & 2 has been a bit of a dog. MK3 and Mk5 both unloved?

    MK1 loved (the original)
    MK2 loved (the best)
MK3 un-loved (cos it offered nothing new)
MK4 loved (revolutionary and 2nd best)
MK5 un-loved (cos it offered nothing new)
    MK6 ? (?)

Lets hope the MK6 has that 'something' the MK4 had.

I'd love to hear MK5 owners views on this, don't get me wrong it is a very capable car but just doesn't have that 'something'.

I did read your post and the others it linked to. just thought that an actual article with spy shots was of interest.

    Ha !

I've had all the other Golfs but not a MK5, been in a few though (no likey)

I compare it to the MK3 which I think you can gather from the above. It certainly goes round bends though and I love that 2.0 diesel engine though !

I have not had he pleasure of driving a Mk1 but have driven each since.

    Mk1 - not driven yet
Mk2 - 8v GTI driven and not that impressed - interior a bit brutal - quick though
mk3 - 8v owned - loved it - felt solid, interior was 1st class - handling better than my previous cars - but not to say that it was good at handling, just better than my previous cars.
Mk4 - drove a 130 TDi - thought it was pokey and solid - drove a V5 and thought it was sh@%te maybe i just had a dud, was not impressed at all.
Mk5 - 140 and 170 DSG TDi - loved them both - the salesman was just a jerk that was trying to impress a new young lady salesperson with a load of salesman cr@p - thought I'd let it go until he said that the zero's on the Audi badge were the extra zero's on the price - **** - he was going on about how the DSG was less fuel efficient than the std manual. It was then that I had to pull him up on most of the things he said - especially about the zero's on Audi's

The Seat salesman didn't slag anyone off. Milton Keynes Seat
The BMW salesman didn't slag anyone off. Luton BMW
The Audi salesman didn't slag anyone off. Bedford Audi
The VW guy - clearly does not know about his own products and how to sell his own positives like the others did. - Bedford VW

    sorry

    rant over

Oh i forgot, mom has a MK$ 1.4 in black. Under powered engine thus struggles with weight of car, still, it works.

test drove a MK4 130 TDI thought it was rapid, still prefer my MK5 though.

Brother picked up a MK3 with 150+k on it for £800 quid, dad calls it a MK2.5 as it is that dire an example, still it suits him and is cheaper to run than the honda type R that he had.
