    Hi guys, first post here.

I picked up my 2009 Golf tsi 160 last week, and bought the MDI cables for both iPod control and USB. I noticed the iPod interface was really slow and clunky and found there was an update. As I was updating I'd read that the updating via USB took only a couple of minutes so after 10-15 minutes of waiting for it to update I grew frustrated and tried to restart the process.

This is where my problem has arisen, now the MDI not even basic aux in are working. The MDI won't even acknowledge anything being plugged in at all and even with the stereo (rcd 310) settings with aux switched on won't play anything through the auxiliary port. The unit also seemed to revert to factory settings.

Now I realise this is my error my patience wasn't strong enough, but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar or if anyone would know how to solve this. I'm wondering of the answer is for it to be coded via vagcom to bring back the MDI and aux as its as if they don't exist to the head unit atm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum.

Well my RCD310 works ok as its a standard fitment on the GTD is yours a factory fit RCD310?

Do you have access to VAG-COM\VCDS?

Ah ok I signed up through my phone and didn't see a signature space to write in will do it when I'm on my pc.

As far as I'm aware it's standard there's nothing to say otherwise and I guess my only access to vagcom would be via vw which could cost me.

Well the MDI and AUX are standard on the RCD310 and if they don't function you shouldn't bee charged for enabling it. Go back to the dealer and explain the problem it should be done under warrant though its a 2009 car so it may have run out. If you picked it up last week there should be some coverage.

I've never tried the AUX socket in front of the arm rest as I don't have or want an iPod. Now I've had mine over 2 years now and I read the RCD310 book are you sure there is no fault finding in there?

2009 is it still under warranty and you've had it serviced at the correct times?

Nice one, please let us know what they find or do?

If you just picked it up last week, you will have a years warranty until your purchase date this time next year.

Yeah it came with a years warranty, I spoke to them on the phone and it needs a new unit apparently just waiting until tomorrow for it to arrive and be fitted, hopefully all is well after that.

Got it back today all is working well and they seem to have applied the update that I failed at miserably for me, and they left the USB cable in too for good measure! Bonus! Not sure if they meant too but I'm not complaining.
