As per my previous posts I am having problems with my electric folding mirrors. Car is a 2006 Passat 2.0tdi Sport.

To recap, a few months back my wing mirrors got stuck in the folded position although eventually unfolded by themselves. A few weeks later I folded them again as I was in a tight car park, but they did not unfold when I turned the switch or later on. I decided to try buying a new switch (from eBay). When it came, it unfolded them and everything was fine again. On monday I again folded them as I was back in same car park. But when I came back the same thing again had happened, stuck folded. The follwing day they half unfolded themselves on their own. Presuming the eBay switch was rubbish, today I bought a genuine switch from my local VW dealer. Offcourse this hasent solved the problem, they are still stuck in the half unfolded position. With all 3 switches the glass adjustment is working fine (not sure about the heated control). Not sure if it is connected but also last week I noticed that the auto door locking has stopped working, when I move off.

Anyway, spoke to my local garage were I usually get my work done today but he can offer no real advice other than sell the car!!!!! as I have had soooo many problems with it!! (injectors, EPB button and motors, A/C problems then complete failure, steering lock problems, various airbag faults, numerious electical problems)

Has anybody had anything like this before?
Does anybody know if there is a way to reset the mirror position?
Would also like to check the fuse/relay but cannot find which one it is, does anybody know?

Driving with the mirrors folded in is major pain and to top it off we are due to go on a family driving holiday on saturday!! Its all a real shame as I love driving the car, but with everything thats happened with it my wife just wont drive it.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, mine sometimes tend to stick. The problem is worse in winter, when a ridiculously small amount of ice can stop them. I suspect that crud stuck in the bottom has the same effect. Having the car jet washed can be a problem too.

The motors are puny and if they get stuck in the wrong position the controller gets itself all confused. Try helping them by hand while someone else works the switch. It might need several cycles before the controller recognises where the limits are. At the very least, you will get them back out to the driving position.

The best option is a strip and clean. You could try WD40, but I'd be worried about marking the paintwork.

One of my mirrors stuck folded once so i did some search on line and I've found that if this mirrors are folded manually they should be unfolded manually and using control switch can make them confused. Try to unfold them manually when they stuck folded that may help.

Thank you for your comments. All sorted, turns out the mirror had jumped a link on the chain that pulls it in/out. Probably been clobbered in a car park and I havent noticed. I put the switch into the folded position then forced the mirrors into folded position, leave it for a few minutes then unfold them, I heard it jump the link and now everything working fine again! :esm
