I have bought an allroad with a nav plus rns-d fitted but i find it primitive with regards to the navigation. I do still have the original maps loaded from 03 so i don't know if updating them would improve things.

I am toying with changing the unit to an rns-e unit or an after market. I am not sure which route to go with. I can do all the things with an aftermarket that i can with the Audi but i don't get a dis display. It is a bigger screen and touch screen with Bluetooth built in so will save me money on other units in the long run. Having said that i am not big on phone connectivity. I am really after sd cards so i can play my music direct and also i want to put dab unit in as there are a couple of stations i want that are only on DAB.

So what should i do stick with the stock look and go for the rns-e or go for an jazzy after market.

One last thing is the after market fascia surrounds all come in black. Does any one know of a grey finish one to match the rest of the trim? Alternatively does anyone know of some paint that i can spray a black one to match the trim colour. Its the later grey matt finish in my car.

    Thanks Mike

Rnse all the way - keep the dash smooth like it should be.

If you get the new 193 model you will get a LED screen which will bring the dash up to date.

If you do a search for Rnsd to rnse it's pretty easy to do but you might need to swap the faceplate.

I know what you mean with the original look but they are loads of money for the units especially the new type as you suggest. Plus if i want to add any other bits like blue tooth etc it seems like its another £200. A chap i spoke to on the bay has one for £300 plus the vat but it has no disc so more expense. What is involved with putting it in besides the Kufatec harness? I believe there is some leads i have to run to the back of the binnacle.

The aftermarket unit i am after is touch screen blutooth etc and i think will still look good, and has the bonus of free updates of maps.

    Still not sure though.

Suppose really it depends what you want for your money so probably the all in one aftermarket would be a better option for you as you say you would need to purchase the Bluetooth for the rnse separately.

Not sure on the instrument panel thing but you only need to place the gps aerial above the glovebox (removal needed) and the wiring harness from kufatec.
