I have an alloy fitment guide which tells me that 8J x 18 rims should have an offset between 35 and 42.

However most of the alloys I have found have a 43 offset.

Does anyone know if this will cause me any issues?

In the linked thread the calculator you input your current alloy eg 7J = 7in width your current eg offset 42 = 42mm
    Then your input your proposed change eg 7J = 7 in 43 = 43mm

    Attachment 17012

As you can see by changing offset by 1 not make much difference....

Alloy width has a greater effect...

    Attachment 17013
So now alloy is 7mm closer to your strut (suspension), whilst coming out by 5mm as well, compared to example

So another question is what is your current alloy width?

Just had a quick scan I think the alloys that A6_Chris has are 19in 8.5j ET48...
    Mine are 17in 8j ET48...

As yours 2.7TDI (shares a lot parts with 3.0), minus Quattro that me and Chris got I would be very surprised if if max is ET42...
What doc you got?? you referencing...

I got a PDF, from somewhere, which list loads of cars with alloy fitments. I currently have 16's but no idea what width and offset they are.

When I get the car back from the garage I will check

Only my opinion mate... I got 17in 8J with 245/45/17 tyres... cheaper than 19's for rubber, but with the width for grip etc plus as have larger sidewall less chance of kerbing by my partner... another one is people with 19s keep posting about road noise from tyres again as they have smaller sidewall...

IMO like you considering 18s for mine when get other stuff done... that probably sweet spot but again I would go for an alloy which you can put a wider tyre get some more grip for that 2.7 TDi = more when cornering etc..

Sorry to hijack the thread but I am looking at buying some 18" wheels for my A6. Standards are 225 50 17 and from what the seller told me the 18" wheels have 215 45 18 tyres. After checking on the websites I found that with the 18" wheels and tyres my overall diameter of the tyre is 6mm lower than the standards which is less than the original by 0.91%. Now I am not sure whether I should go for them or not. Dont think theres any problem with diameter but would there be issues with 215 wide tyres?

You need 245 40 18.....that's the standard size on my factory fitted alloys. I use 225 50 17 as my winter alloys.....also Audi recommended size.

I gotta check with him on the width cos he was throwing the wheels along with 2 almost new 215 P zeros but they wont be of any use to me. Wheels are 42 offset from what I remember and they 114x5 stud diameter. Arent A6 17" standard wheel 112x5 stud diameter?
