Hi I have noticed that when my air con/heater fan is set to about half way it sounds like the bearing is on the way out, if i speed or slow the fan down the noise stops. Any ideas? Is it a new heater fan? and if so where from online? Would it be worth asking a breakers for one? And also how much of a job is it to replace? Sorry I havent got a workshop manual yet.

    Thanks.

Problem with a breaker is that it's likely to be the same or worse, and chances are you won't know till it's fitted...

The proper "green" fix is to replace the bearings on the fan motor, obviously requiring getting the fan motor out to see if it's possible.

If you've not found a manual yet, it's probably worth looking on ebay for a DVD version, but the Bently manual is not the most detailed, so try a different one.

It has to be said that there are loads of illegal copies of the Official VAG Workshop Manual on Ebay, so bear this in mind when bidding....

Hello, mine can be noisy too, blamed it on water ingress, lift the plenum chamber cover panel (battery access panel and its mount) and take out the pollen filter, its worth checking for water ingress around its base seal and debris build up around the bonnet hinges. Mine is noisiest on recirculation and when its turned off it doesn't always disengage from that, I have to turn down the fan speed to the heater / climate off position and back on again. Worth trying both and check for debris that may have took the fan out of balance too.

    Cheers

Thank you for the detailed information, Unfortunately mine is still making a squealing bearing noise at low RPM. Hi RPM approx. 50%the noise is gone.
Does anybody have a diagram of where the heater fan motors, I have the Factory w/shop manual already , but not really clear.

    Regards
    SGM Charles
