Well guys i have just bought a 2006 PD 140 sport passat with 112000 miles for cheap money. The reason being is that its going into limp mode all the time.I had 2 A4s in the past which did the same and i sorted both of them out ok.

Let me tell yas whats happening, though all the revs in all gears im getting the turbo whiz sound and at 70 mph limp mode(same as any probs with any of the turbos). The only warning im getting is a flashing glow plug light(No engine management light showing).

If anybody can shed some much wanted light on this it will be much appreciate

Well sure you could always start by replacing the turbo, then the MAF, then the boost valves, then the intercooler pipes, then the fuel pump, then......
OR since you have no money to waste, take it to an indy and get a scan done !
Dont be stupid mate, your looking for a needle in a haystack without some sort of code read

It's overboosting mate, the solution is to replace the turbo £650 recon £1000 new or drive it up to 70 mph and then go for a 50 mile drive at constant speed to burn off the carbon causing the vanes to stick, you may also want to give it a few hoofs @ 30 moh until the fog is no longer visible in the mirror than do the burn off method, be aware the best way to do it is illegal in the UK, you get it to 70, increase it in 10mph intervals until you get that crematorium feeling that the heat is making it impossible for anything to live in the turbo, this doesn't always work btw, but it's worth a try, or get the turbo off and clean it manually.

Cheers for the input lads.As you say A4 lad it is a needle in a haystack approach but i love a challenge.

As for the overboost DSG4ME,i think its more lickely to be an air leak more than a mankie turbo cus of the whistle though out the revs

You mean the siren syndrome, sounds like a cop car in the distance?

If so this normal behaviour with the rubbish turbo VW spec'd for the engine, mines been doing it since about 40k now and overboosting,

If you want proof try this, go out tonight when there is not much traffic, get on the motorway and slam it all the way up to 70+ mph, you will feel it go limp and get the coil light icon on, now turn it off to reset it and do it again another 2-3 times and you will get the coil and management lights on, be warned though once the management one is on it needs VAG_COM to turn it off again.

If it is an overboost or something more serious that you can't detect without a scan, what are you going to do if/when it fails?

PS - what are 'vw scammers'?

Its the siren syndrome i have DSG4ME and after going over 70 mph limping but i never get the management light just the flashing coil light and thought i mite get away with an easy fix.On my last A4 i fixed the limp mode problem by going over all the possible problems myself one by one and it ended up being a bust N75 and did the same with the A4 i had before that and it turned out to be a bust non return vac valve. Both simple fixs. (talked to a vw mechanic one night in a pub and his advice was to replace the turbo, some help he was).
