Rattle when air con turned off

Hi hope someone can help getting a rattle from the front of the engine when i turn the air con on it goes away car is running fine idles perfect cam belt was changed 7 months ago and about a year and half alternator pulley was done to im thinking it could be the aux belt tensioner or the pulley on the compressor any ideas people?

I would check the compressor clutch,see if the nuts worked loose.

Already checked that and it's fine not loose
If I just leave the ac on no noise so might just do that
These clutches on the compressor are not cheap plus can't find where you can buy just the pulley would it need re gassing if I just changed the pulley iv got a denso compressor I thinks these came with a plastic pulley

Get someone to operate the econ on/off and check where its eminating from,you should be able to do it in situ as long as there's enough clearance at the front,a degas will only be necessary if you have to remove the hoses.

It's the AC compressor clutch, mine does the same thing. Pulley kit from TPS is £108.

No I haven't bothered yet as it looks like the front bumper, rad etc has to be removed to get proper access. I just leave the AC on, as like yours it only makes a noise when set to econ.

Hi just a option the rattle we are getting is the rubber dampers worn in the pulley found a site were you can just buy the rubbers instead of the whole pulley assy 6 rubbers fit in the pulley to dampen the noise when air con is off here the link http://www.mavoyparts.com/BUMPER,_RU...4_3818584.aspx

Its would be worth trying it, due to the low cost instead of £108 for the kit

Very useful link. It is the rubbers that wear out causing the rattling. Mine had worn away to the size of a pea!!
