    Morning folks,

I'm getting the following two DTC on my 2001 A4 2.0 20V (ALT) 104,000 miles. Does anybody know what the most common cause of these faults. Also, should I clear the codes or wait till i've swapped a sensor/carried out repair. Any help would appreciated as money is tight and don't want to send to garage. I've cleared the codes once but they came back within 20 miles.
Its been an expensive two months :- vacuum pipe, temp. sensor, thermostat housing and crank shaft sensor. Mr Audi has a big smile at the moment as his pockets are full.

    Thanks
    Rocketman

    Thanks Sam,

Reading the info it looks like it may be a faulty MAF sensor.

Does anybody know if a can get these online as I guess it will cost less than my local audi parts dealer. I believe its a bosch part, not audi.

    Thanks

Buy genuine only and do check with your dealer first - hopefully you'll be surprised at the price.

If you're not surprised, we have a whole host of suppliers on board - just follow the link in my signature to the Sponsor section and take your pick

    Sam

£98.94 plus vat for MAF sensor from local audi dealer. I'm going to go for this as its not as bad as I thought it would be. Along with the £98.94, I must hand back the faulty unit or face another £45 surcharge (I've already removed it). I pick it up on friday so I'll let you know if its the answer to my problems.

    Thanks

    Trev

In the past I've only ever seen those codes when the 1 of the 2 oxygen sensors has failed.

The speed pickup is a bit vauge sometimes when you put the foot down. Just doesn't feel right. I think I'll try MAF sensor first as its done 104,000, which is no shame. Bosch say they have had some go at 40,000, due to poor maintenance (dirty air filter).

You can clean the MAF with Isopropal (from Maplins). Remove the sensor from the MAF housing which you'll need a set of torx security keys for. Get a freezer bag & spray the Isopropal in, submerge the sensor in it for 1/2 an hour or so giving it a bit of a shake now & again. Let it dry out & refit.
