Well now that i,ve got the time i need the help and advice from the knowledge of the site.

Last summer i purchased a Audi A4 1.9tdi (B7) 2005 plate for the wife. It came with 75,000 on the clock and drove very well and was in cracking condition. After purchasing the car i got a full service and timing belt change carried out. I then depolyed to Afghan for 6 months and left the car with the wife. On my return she informed me there was an orange light on and has been for some time...(the joy)

Carried out some fault finding and googling. Got hold of a vag can and scanned thre car. Fault code thrown up was 17055 number one glow plug, i then changed glow plug and reset the EML. No problems but 2 days later same EML came on , scanned car and got the same fault code. Whilst the EML is on the car drives and starts fine with no issues. The glow plug light has never come.

Now from traweling the interweb there seems to be lots of advice, but none to my speacific drama!

My question is this, My next avenue is to remove the ECU and check the relays. Does anyone know the exact loaction/part number for the glow plug realy and if removing the ECU when i refit it will it throw up new codes and problems.( i have had this isuue with the vehicles i work with in the green machine whilst in Afghan)

However looking into it some more there is a lot of advice pointing to the Glow plug harness. Is this a common fault? I,m taking it the harness is a full engine harness and would be 1. expensive 2. a royal pain. Has any one else ttried to resolve the harness issue, i have seen a thread refering to splicing in a new loom.

The glow plugs i initally replaced were NGK and correct for my engine code (BKE)

If anyone has any tips or advice it would be gratfully appreaciated, i,m having a cracking week with this playing up and my 530m sport spontaneously combusting outside work (yeah i,ll take the abuse for having a bmw) i need to avoid garages as i skint!

    Thanks in advice

    vinnie

The glow plug control unit is in the plenum chamber water box with the ECU so I would start by checking the wiring for water damage, i.e. corrosion.
