Hello, and thank you for reading.

I am trying to 'turn on' the RCL in my car.
Using VCDS Lite, my Soft Coding is 01416, which I have found to be for vehicles with Central Locking and Anti-Theft Alarm System. (Total closure on key).
I was to recode it to 10184 which I believe to be as above but with Radio Remote Control. I then tried the 2 keys in the ignition and drivers door so the fob would be linked to the system. But I had no luck.
I tried using the codes in the central locking faq (03468, 12172, I do not know which stereo shipped with the car, but I assume you do not need the original stereo in). Again I was unable to get the remote to operate the doors. I can find no other posts which help though others have enabled theirs in the past.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

    The scene:
    Car = 1997 A4 B5 1.8 Avant (Bright Green)
    Pump = 8L0 862 257 G
Keys which came with the car = Basic keys x 2

According to the sticker in the wheel well, the car was not shipped with the remote option enabled.

Bought an Audi 2 button fob online 4D0 837 231 - batteries OK
    Bought a VW 2 button fob online 4D0 837 231 - batteries OK
At this point I do not have new transponders in the remote fobs though this should not affect the remote operation part surely...

What little hair I have left is getting nervous as I have searched but nothing I have found works.
    It sure is green!

you did have an old key in ign not a fob?
the pump part no. is ok, the stereo makes no difference and if it accepts softcode then no reason why you shouldnt be able to sync. the keys to pump

only thing i can think of is your using wrong instructions
    try these

    remote fob coding

    1. insert key into ignition and turn on (turn one notch do not start car) does not matter what type of key as long as it is coded to the immobiliser i.e capable of starting car

    2. insert second key (fob type) into drivers door lock and turn to lock car

    3. press unlock button on fob once (indicator may flash), wait six seconds press unlock button again, car will unlock, remove key

    4. open door and remove key from ignition, close door and press lock/unlock buttons on fob, car should now lock/unlock

    to code a second fob

follow steps 1 + 2 using second fob to be coded to lock drivers door then press unlock button twice, wait six seconds and press unlock again, then go to step 4

up to four keys can be coded to the pump, for third key you would press unlock 3 times, wait 6 seconds etc.... if you code key two but only press once it would replace key one as you would be storing it in position one

    Thanks for the reply olds_kool
    Taking baby steps in order...
    1) Is the first notch is when the instrument cluster illuminates but you are not cranking the starter.
    2) I have tried the above, but the key on the fob is from a different car. I locked it with the second straight key, held the fob held close by and pressed the buttion. I have put off getting a key cut and an immobiliser coded till I am sure I can get the remote working (and this is where I am assuming I can do it in that order)
    3) I have tried this a number of times with both remotes, no luck.
Because the above did not work, I coded the original number back in.
I will have the laptop again on Friday and I hope to have another bash. It in madenning it is not working as I seem to have all the pieces of the puzzle.

If anyone has anything to add, or advice or opinions, please leave them here and I will update the thread when I get the chance to recode again.

check the 12 pin harness plug on pump, are pins 1 and 7 empty? thats the aerial for remote, you might not have one as it wasnt factory fitted so it may just be struggling to pick up signal?

    1) yes turn on ign. but dont start

    Thanks for your knowledge olds_kool.
I have just checked the loom looking for a wire to pin 7 . There are 2 smaller 'plugs' which have many wires and are all taped together - I don't think I should be looking at them.
The large black plug has no wire to pin 7, and nothing to pin 1 (I forgot to check pin 1 at the car but have checked my bad photo).
So, is it a case of looping a wire from pin 1 to 7? Reading up on extending the aerial, I have heard of people using coax, but not having anything to start with, how should I proceed? I am looking for a better range than a factory fitted remote which I believe was limited to a few metres for the G pump.

if you go to audi and ask for part number 000 979 018 this is a wire with the correct connectors (one wire with connector on each end so chop in half)
then you need some co-ax cable, RG-58 or similiar
if i remember correctly you want the inner conecting to pin 7 and the screen to pin 1
about 1m should do it and just shove it up inside C post

Ok, I bought the antenna/receiver wire, and got the part number mentioned above.
Today I had access to the laptop again and went to put all the pieces together only to discover I have a yellow and black wire attached to pin 1 (I must have taken a really bad photo before). This heads up with the loom towards the C post.
Do I splice the screen of the antenna to the yellow and black wire attached to pin 1 or try and trace the other end of the wire and see if it is attached to anything?

    Hi pinki,

It may be a little late now, but I saved myself a lot of hassle and bought a £20 kit off the net, intalled it (involves getting a £3 key cut) installed it and voila. See below thread. Thanks again bannedbiker for the wiring instructions!

more info here about softcode etc..

    http://www.wak-tt.com/tt/tt_docs/cab...5101-96-11.pdf

usefull decoder for softcode can be downloaded here

    http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-f...ort-guide.html

double checked wiring diagram and 1+7 are for aerial but doesnt state colour. if your sure youve got number correct i'd just splice it in (unless you can remove it from plug?)

also did you delete all fault codes from pump if theres a lot it can cause issues untill deleted
you can use vagcom to code fob to pump, sorry dont know how (because ive never had to)but i know its possible
