    Hi,

This is probable the most helpful post to get you started.

I have charge the battery fully, it was up over 13Volts. (If earths OK and relay fails to fix problem fit a new battery and code it)

Also I checked the earths for the ecu. One on top of bulk head by expansion vessel and one plug in the wiring loom located slightly to driver side clipped to rear top of bulk head. Also found another earth point below brake master cylinder in bottom of plenum chamber. All these looked clean and had zero corrosion.( this info is for right hand drive car)

Didn't know how to check the switch earth etc. So I have replaced relay J317 (614 on it) part no. 8EO 951 253 in position 3 under ecu. (this in the black box under the plenum chamber plastic cover at the rear of the engine bay, LHD vehicles passenger side)

    Good afternoon.
This morning I've been reviewing the points of land and can gateway connections. The problem continues. Now, I'm charging the battery. The rate charge is 4 Amp / hour.
To open the black box housing the J317 relay, should we remove the wipers?
    Thank you very much

    Hi fjalonso,

On the RHD car you don't need too remove the wipers. The box has, from memory 5 Torx screws, one toward the rear of the box. Once all are removed lift the lid at the front and once lifted it should unclip from the rear. It is a fiddle but you can get it off. Putting it back on make sure the rear of the box is clipped in properly before screwing it up. Getting it back on correctly was again a bit of a fiddle but it will go.

This is for right hand drive car with the ECU on the opposite side to yours but I would assume the same can be done.

I changed a few things at once e.g battery, earth wiring check and relay but my feeling is that the relay was the cause.

Have you done a scan on your car if so where the fault codes similar to mine.

    Have a good evening.

    Hi,

Sorry been out this morning. This is the relay. "So I have replaced relay J317 (614 on it) part no. 8EO 951 253 in position 3 under ecu."

I unclipped the ECU to give better access to the relay.

Good afternoon. This morning I had the relay J317 in my hands and I saw in one of the terminals a cold welding. This was the problem. Thanks to you has been fixed. When you come to Spain I buy you a meal. Again ... thank you very much. Also thanks to this wonderful forum. Best regards. Javier
