Hello all, I'm new to the forums and this is my first post.

I have bought the above car and was wondering if anyone can clarify at what milage the timing belt should be replaced? The selling garage states that this is 114k however Audi dealer is saying 75k. The car has covered 82k. many thanks in advance. Nige

Hi, these are the service pages I have applicable to my 2005 model..

    Attachment 16624

This say 80,000 miles page 5 (toothed belt replacement)... service manual says 76,000 miles...

So dealer right it is due... Audi fixed servicing as yours 2.0 tdi = £430 for cambelt...

Depending on what mileage you do/how long you want to keep car I would be tempted to do water pump and get coolant done, this will be easily accesible when doing cambelt and a labour saving... coolant is 150,000 miles / 5 years service life

I would double check for a 2009 model. I have an`08 and I`m sure its more than my previous B7 A4 2.0 TDI of 80K. I`m at work so cant check at the moment (on me Lunch of course!).

The figure of 76k was pulled from a erwinonline account...

Audi dealer also suggest 75K, in my view seller garage i) does not want to cough up discount ii) do work iii) misguiding buyer

Cam-belts on my other cars have been usually changed due to age not mileage...

On my current VW it has 30k on clock is a 08 plate and getting camblet done because of age, dealer advise 4 years change if not do the mileage... I once had a cam belt go on my last VW when water pump seized took teeth off belt luckily no damage to engine but was not good experience...

Cost of cambelt/waterpump/coolant is cheaper than new engine... Just my opinion...

Hi again, just checked my handbook for 2009 A6. Book states for ALL 2.0TDI engines.....114000miles for toothed belt. I thought it was more than 80K.

If my car had a belt (it has a chain) I would be doing it at the norm that I've done for years - 60k or 4 years, just to be safe

Thank you both for replies. I bit the bullet today at Shrewsbury Audi and had it done. Timing belt + water pump + auxiliary (v belt?) + tensioners etc. £527. I would have only been watching the mileage all the time had I not. 114k is what the selling dealer was saying too but I looked in the service book that came with the car and it say 80k so confusing. I will check the handbook to see what it says in there. Thanks again

I think no brainer if you like car and just want to be on safe side that was best idea... Vs cost of damage from breakage running into ££££...

As a few times when used dealer their invoice never had breakdown of part/labour just done check by using a number plate off Autotrader for a 2009 2.0 TDI 170BHP on eurocarparts site...

    Contitech Timing belt Kit=£198, Contitech V Belt=£17, Waterpump=£45, QX coolant 5LTR conc.=£18 Grand total=£278 (All figures round up/down to £)

IMO £527 good value for genuine parts/labour + warranty = peace of mind

JUst wondering should I get my belt done this August... She'll be 4 years old but only has 28 000 at the moment... but on the last service at 19787 Slough Audi have ticked the toothbelt on the service hand book, so Ive mailed them to ask... was it done or not... ie print out on the service
