    u r better of going to vw direct for this part. have used cheap gsf sensors before but in the long run had to buy genuine VW sensors. also just as a point before running to buy a sensor try opening and cleaning ur throttle body and all the pipes associated with it. had the same problem. thought i would change the sensor but before i did i decided to clean the throttle body and relevant tubes. guess wat, the power was unbelievable. just raced a merc. the otherday the expression on the other drivers face was fulfilling. he he he

    Jak,

    The F 00C 2G2 027 corresponds to the Bosch part number for the MAF.

    Given this Bosch part number, or even the year and model of your car I am suprised that no one has been able to provide you with a replacement MAF, or even an equivalent VW part number.

    To determine the MAF's equivalent VW part number, you will need to know your engine code. For a Golf MK4 this is normally three letters, beginning with an A, i.e. Axx.

    This should be printed on a sticker/label;
    • on the timing belt cover in the engine,
    • in the boot, near the spare tyre well underneath the carpet.
    • in the owner's manual
    From my understanding the 1999 90BHP Golf could correspond to either of the two engine codes;
    • AGR: MAF VW part number 074.906.461
    • ALH: MAF VW part number 06A.906.461
    I'd recommend contacting a VW Dealer to double check, and also if you still can't determine your engine code. Quote your Chassis Number (VIN), and they should be able to help.

    Finally, there may be some merit in trying to use a Pierburg equivalent MAF as a replacement for the Bosch MAF, since the Bosch MAFs are considered more delicate.

    Best wishes and please let us know how you get on.

    Completely agree.

    Cheap MAFs are a complete false economy. As suggested stick to only Genuine Bosch or Pierburg MAFs, (preferably Pierburg).

    BTW, I didn't think that a TDI had a throttle body, but yes while you are replacing the MAF, use this as an oppurtunity to;
    • change the Air Filter
    • Carefully clean the intake hoses
    • Carefully clean the Air box, and the Airbox Intake feed
    • Ensure that all air hoses fit tightly and don't appear to be damaged

    The car shouldn't really be driven around with the MAF (Air Volume Meter) disconnected. Doing so, the ECU will compensate by reverting to a default airflow map (based on engine speed, temp, etc).

    From my understanding, this wont burn optimally and will harm economy and increase emissions, so should only be regarded as a very short term workaround. Ideally, goto a VW dealer and order a replacement MAF (Air Volume Meter) ASAP.

    If you are going to replace the MAF yourself, familiarise yourself with the MAF replacement procedure.
