Battery Light Flashing

Whilst driving on the A406 in London at 40mph the Red Battery Light began to Flash in 1 second intervals. I pulled over and consulted my handbook and it suggested that it could be one of three things. Old Battery (battery is less than a year old), loose belt (All belts are correctly tightened) and lastly the voltage regulator may need replacing. As I don't know where or what the voltage regulator looks like I cannot comment on that. However not once was the word flashing mentioned. My light was not constantly on but flashing!
Has this happened to anyone else out there and if so what did you have to do to resolve the issue?
Any help in this matter will be appreciated.

Sounds like a fault in the alternator but I suggest you get a diagnostic check which should tell

I would check the output from the back of the alternator and then check at the battery itself to see how much if any voltage drop you have.
