RCD 510 (Passat B6 - 2.0 TDI - 2006)

Hello Everybody,

I have just bought a RCD510 to replace my temperamental RCD300.

After fitting it, it drained my battery over night, after my initial panicking and cursing, I did some research and discovered that its a common issue as apparently the computer is constantly looking for the old stereo.

I've read that I need to purchase a CAN-Gateway???

Is this correct? can I fit this myself? they seems to be a lot of different types?

Any help is much appreciated, I'm a little lost???

They are all identified with letters at the end, a, b, c, etc I understand you need one which is e or above the later the better (I think q is the latest) for any other future mods you may do.

Hi, The CAN - Gateway is hidden behind the heater control unit in the dash, so its Stereo and heater controls out to get to it, plus it will need coding. So if you can not code it yourself, there are a few comapnies out there that will supply, fit & code the units for about £150 - I had my done on my 56 plate last year, the company (Hazzydayz) fitted the latest version available at that time and they came down from London to my place of work on the South coast and did it all for me and gave me a 2 year warranty on the parts and work.
