I have read a few threads regarding clutch replacement.

My car is mapped and my understanding is that the intermittent slipping clutch is caused by it not being able to handle the additional torque.

It only happens when I'm in 4th and it is only temporary until I reach speed and change up into 5th.

I'm inclined to follow the advice on here and change both the clutch and flywheel. I'm also inclined to upgrade the clutch to accommodate the additional torque.

With this in mind, I was looking at the Sachs performance clutch but I'm lost as to which one I need.

If anyone could advise regarding Sachs clutches (or other brands), which one to purchase, where from and how much to pay, it would be most appreciated.

P.S If you could also advise regarding the flywheel, it would be most helpful.

P.P.S My car has about 130k miles and has already had a dealer fitted clutch at around 70k miles. Would it be usual for the existing clutch only to have lasted for another 60k?

    Thank you,
    Sean.

I raised a question back in December regarding clutch slip but never got any replies. Due to limited funds, I've had to put off looking at a replacement clutch and been driving very carefully.

I'm now resigned to the fact that I need to do this sooner rather than later as I don't want to be left stranded during summer hols with the wife & kids in tow!

If anyone could advise with regards to clutch and DMF replacement on 1.9TDi Quattro Sport (Mapped to 170), it would be most appreciated. Not knowing a great deal about cars, other that what I read on the forum, I'd be more than pleased to receive any advice regarding clutch type, how much to pay, where to buy etc.

    Thank you,
    Sean.

    Hi there

My 1.9TDI QS has a Revo (rr'd at 181bhp and 284lb/ft) remap and needed a new clutch soon after. This was at 75k miles and the clutch was the original. It was replaced with an OEM LUK item, with OEM LUK DMF and it's been absolutely fine (now on 124k miles).
Apparantly the OEM clutch/DMF is rated to 300lb/ft, so unless you have one serious remap, you shouldn't need a performance clutch.

Thanks for that, seems to stack up with what I was told yesterday when ringing around a few garages. Apparently, unless I'm booting the car everywhere, I should be fine with a direct replacement. Got a price from Europarts for an OEM LUK clutch/DMF, £514 inc. vat. Just need a reputable garage to fit it!

If anyone can point me in another direction for a better price, it would be most appreciated.

    Cheers.

For anyone looking to do the same, I'd strongly recommend BuyPartsby for clutch parts. Just managed to pick up new clutch kit, DMF and spigot bearing for £370 inc. VAT. and delivery!

And to boot, these are LUK direct replacements.

It's all to do with the driving style. I have pulled DMF of a 240k audi a4 1.9 tdi quattro from 1998 which had LESS side to side play than the new LUK flywheel that replaced it ! I also pulled a DMF of one of the cars i bought which was separated in 2 pieces !!! Basically the rivets came apart and the bit that fastened to the crank was spinning without transmitting drive. I aso know that 180Bhp will play havoc with DMF and standard clutches, a stronger pressure plate and disc is required in most instances. See the Sachs SRE range of clutches...

so if i remap my 120k 1.9 tdi b6 quattro 130 bhp then i need to replace the clutch and dmf? if so what do you recommend? i drive fast and i've never ruined a clutch. and i drive cars for at least 100k. this b6 is my first car ever i bought with over 100k on it. i wanna do about 300k in it. i guess its good for that. i hope. any pointers would be appreciated all.

If you are wanting to do 300k in it i would seriously re-consider the re map. Stock all the way.
