Hi guys, I have recently bought a 2005 A4 FSIT Quattro with a BWE engine. The car was sold to me with the MIL on. On plugging it into VAGCOM, I found several faults, I erased them and the one that was showing up was about the cam and crank sensor being out of sync. To cut a long story short, I stripped her down today, found someone had replaced the intake cam and had set up the cam chain timing wrong.
I corrected the intake cam which was out 1 tooth and replaced timing belt kit, water pump, cam chains and automatic tensioner. Rebuilt her and took her a drive.
20 miles in the MIL came on again and this is what she is reading now !!!

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I took off the N249 valve and I think it is broken as its the older style one and appears to be seized aswell as the old O rings seem very sloopy so hopefully this will resolve that even although it did not bring on the MIL.
Im more stuck on the CAM one

You didn’t fit a camshaft adjuster repair set and N205 control valve did you? You could try fitting a new N205 valve but I will not rebuild these systems without fitting new adjusters. I think you should check the oil pressure as well.

The adjuster as in on the back of the exhaust cam ? No, I could not get it off, the 55 torq rounded off so I had to strip the cams right out to correct the timing.it comes on after about 20 - 50 miles each time

Yes, the adjuster is the gear wheel. You could try replacing the valve but I fear you are going to have to strip it all down, drill out the bolt and fit a new cam wheel. Personally, I would fit a new valve and try it but knowing the propensity of this type of engine to sludge up the sump, I would consider pulling the sump off and making sure the pickup is clean. You have to remember that the adjuster is driven by oil pressure and so if its response is slow this could point to problems in this area.

Ok but I have drove probably about 500 miles previous to this latest repair without this fault happening. Just to put my mind at ease, its noting to do with timing off ? ( as in valve or chain ) apart from the fact that the variable is possibly putting it off ? I take it they use 5/30 oil ? That torq is wild tight on her. Scared of ending up needing an exhaust cam by the end of the job !!! Do you know off hand, how much the adjuster is ? I really might live with it for a while. Cant bear the thought of stripping her all down for the third time in the space of a week. She drives 100% All I want to do is to enjoy my new car ! These faults are a complete ******** or / and I have bought a dawg of a car :-(

Ps - ill pull the sump off snd have a look. Tell me PLEASE lol, you dont have to start dropping subframes ect do you ? I think I know the answer though :-( ???

Ok, that was fun but done it anyway. Clean as a whistle. Removed and cleaned it snyway. Ran a flush through and changed the oil and filter again. Removed and cleaned out valve. Cleared all faults and ill see what happens. Did notice when clearing the faults that the mil was triggered by a fault to do with the timing not centered correctly-too much retarded. Ill find out the exact code and edit the post with it. Fingers crossed this has fixed it. Starting to get F@&KED off with it now :-( Autotrader next stage !

Just to update this thread for anyone that has the same problem. I repaired the problem. In the end, the IDIOT that worked on the car previous to me buying it had replaced the intake camshaft as it had worn through as a result of the cam follower wearing. He had put the camshaft at least one tooth out on the timing. The car had drove 100% but just kept bringing up the above codes. I corrected the timing and all is still well
