    Hi

I have bought a 2002 Golf TDI in the UK. I am still in Australia but moving back home to Scotland soon.

I have 3 kids under the age of 6 so need to fit 3 car seats in the back.

Firstly is this possible size wise.

Secondly to do this I need to change the 2 point lap belt in the middle to a normal 3 point belt.

    How do I do this?

Where do I get it done?

    Any idea how much?

Any advice greatly appreciated as I am suddenly faced with a significant problem (and upset wife..)

    Thanks

    Simon

    Welcome to VWAF

3 car seats on the rear bench will be very tight - if they're all front fastening seats and you can leave the seats in place, then it may be doable, otherwise you're going to have issues with trying to latch the belts between the seats.

You can fit a third full seatbelt in the back but you will need a new clip/buckle to latch. You'll also have to attack the trim on the rear seat so you can find the bolt holes to mount the belt.

    Thanks Sam

We dont have any choice sadly short of selling the car or a child.

So to fit a 3 point in the back seat there are bolt holes on the back seat somewhere to fit the new 3 point seat? I heard somewhere that I needed to get a whole new back seat with the belt built in already from another car.

The bigger cars have the three point belt retraction thingummy built into the back seat upright - I looked into it with my Passat but gave up because of this.

Assuming the Golf is a MKIV (it's in the MkIV section) then as far as I'm aware only one seat back was offered across the range with various options - arm rest, full belt, 40/60 split and so on.

    I'm quite often wrong though

    Pics to show what I'm talking about;

    3 point rear belt

    Backrest, rear, sedan

    Backrest, rear, divided

    Hi Simon,

I have got 3 year old twins and have these car seats http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165554
they fit really nicely in the back seat of my car (i have the same as you), but I would struggle to fit another one in, but i have never tried it so cannot really comment.
