Just started using the car after buying last month. I gave it a full service the other week too. I did a 40 mile drive in it on Friday and notice the engine doesn't get upto 90 degrees. It sits at about a quarter. (45?)

    Could it be the sensor?

if it blows out lukewarm air then its probably your thermostat not closing. if it blows out really hot air then the stat is ok and it could be the sensor or gauge.
my money is on lukewarm air and a failed stat. test drive it is then, good excuse to go for a quick blast. after 3 miles or so the heater should almost be capable of burning your skin off on full temp.

80% of the time, it'll be the thermostat rather than the sender. The thermostat failing on these cars is a really common problem, but very cheap and easy to fix. 20min job maximum.

Well, the stats fitted to these cars are all suffering failure, so any other make is likely to be just as good. Anyway, it's not like Audi make the stats.

Think it must be that. The Missus said the heaters got warm on the drive to work but not hot! I'll take a trip to GSF this week and report back.

Mine is like that but the sender is to blame. I got a new one and it seems to read the correct temp and fluctuates accordingly. I did a run with VCDS and it gets to about 85c even though the gauge shows 70c.

Change the thermostat for what they cost. I have the same engine mine went the other month just make sure you put the right antifreeze in.
