That's uncalled for - the car was still in warranty. Dealer said they're not bad enough to change. VW said "not bad enough" is not an acceptable answer, they're either OK or they're not.

There are clear signs of the lacquer failing around the centre hole but the dealer is still saying VW won't accept them as a warranty claim so they daren't send them back. VW has now backed away from "not bad enough and says it's up to the dealer.

I don't understand their attitude as others talk of having alloys changed with very minor corrosion, sometimes even without asking. The wheels are otherwise completely unmarked.

I've had alloys refurbed so I'm not averse to getting it done, but these are diamond cut so they'll be expensive and they tend not to last well after refurb. May have to get them powder coated, but might look odd moving away from the original finish.

I would try a different dealer, I had a set of polished rimmed ACS alloys on my 5 series and they were peeling after 1 winter. I had them powdercoated as the guy at the wheel refurbers said they redid hundreds of polished rims every year and they start to peal in the winter months due to the salt on the roads.

Don't know if anyone's interested but my plastic VW roundels are again showing the 'white worm' syndrome, having been replaced in 2012. This time I cannot be bothered having them renewed to be honest. The car is five years old in July - how time flies by.
I don't feel like replacing it with the MK7, yet, as it seems to have 'issues' in certain areas and I am not too enamoured with the car having an EPB and all the other new-fangled gizmos that your typical VW dealer probably cannot fathom out problem should they arise.

The dealer did unhesitatingly change all the centre caps for the same reason on our car, so a March 2011 car and they changed them a couple of months ago. I gather VW changed the manufacturing method in 2011 and the newer caps are supposed to be more resistant to deterioration. I don't know if that's true, but maybe you got the old ones.

I think (other than the wheels) the Twist has been great so far and one of its joys is that it's pretty basic. This is the first VW we've had in the family for a long time and I can see us keeping it for a long time. Cars with EPBs (and all sorts of other stuff) are going to be nightmare once they're a few years old.
