Thanks again Mark. Just want to do my best to get all the old coolant out. I think the previous owner mixed G12 with other coolant, so it is now brown.

That was the primary reason for my change of coolant.

Dont worry about the small amount of old stuff left, it really is minimal.

    Its nice and red/pink now!

You should be fine once its done.

BTW I paid £3.85 + vat for 1.5litres of G12+ from gsf.... the dealer wanted £6.85+ vat!!!

My local dealer was quite reasonable, only €7 per 1.5L inc VAT for G12+ (as in Ireland no worth the shipping cost, I do have a copy of their catalogue though). Bought 3L as recommended by the dealer, as well as yourself.

Ireland was quoted as being one of the richest countries recently, I know how much the cost of living is and how much you earn... so 7euro isnt too bad!(I dont have a euro symbol on my keyboard.. haha!)

I put most of the coolant in first...

Yep €7 isn't bad at all, was expecting a lot more for genuine VW stuff.

Got my 120K service due in March so I'll be getting the cambelt/waterpump changed in addition to all the drive belts. Want to change the brake fluid and coolant aswell but thought I would rather do that myself and save a bit of money.

When changing the waterpump, will the coolant be flushed out anyway? No point changing it now if its got to be flused/changed later on.

I think I'll be hopeless at changing brake fluid... Anybody point me to a step by step guide (pref with pics).

I'm not sure how to use a bleed kit or which one to buy. When are you supposed to press the pedal? What's the procedure when filling it up? How do you ensure theirs no airlocks? Any special requirements as it has ABS?

You get the idea... I'm pretty hopeless

The coolant will be changed when the waterpump is replaced yes.

Buy an eezibleed kit to do your brake fluid, its really easy.

You`ll need your spare out as it uses pressure from the tyre to push the old fluid out.

You fill the bottle from the kit with new brake fluid, connect it to your fluid reservoir on the car,
Then connect the spare to the kit, and go around each brake caliper opening each bleed screw until new fluid comes out.
Do one at a time and dont forget to keep filling the bottle with more brake fluid.

No pumping of the pedal is needed.

Should take 1 to 2 hours max.

You`ll need a 8mm brake pipe spanner too.

Thank you very much for that

I didn't know it took so long... maybe that explains why my local indi wants an extra £25 for brake fluid change.

So just so that I understand... the same bleeding kit is used to replace the brake fluid as well as bleed it? I though it was replaced from the engine bay... like coolant/oil/screenwash

I'm guessing this method is the 'pressurised' method that should be used when you have an ABS system.

Sometimes brake fluid that is in the reservoir is removed prior to what Ive mentioned.

The correct way is to make sure all the old fluid is replaced throughout all the brake pipes.

A brake fluid change should be a £50 ish quid job from a garage if its done correctly.

I think vw main dealers are charging that.

Much less than that and I reckon just the reservoir is being done.

    No problem to help out.

Oh and by the way, my brake pedal feels much better since its been done.
