    Like a fool , I didn't write down what code I need to look for on the manufacturers plate to tell me what auto gearbox type is fitted
    I found it on someones thread but there are loads to go through...
    Can anyone tell me please what code signifies a tiptronic and what is a multitronicc

    Am I panicing too much over which auto to buy ???

    Correction: I think it had multiple names - but GWX was on the 1.9 TDi 130's produced in 2004.

    01J would be Multitronic I believe.

    Your basic question has been answered clearly on the other thread
    2 w/d auto=multitronic
    4w/d (quattro) auto = tiptronic, porsche 928 derived, bullet proof box, the safer bet for pre 2005 Audi auto boxes
    If you are contemplating a post 2005 auto , you might choose either option safely as the multitronic issues were sorted by then
    A6 2.4 SE (2000)S3 1.8T (2001)80 Coupe 2.3 (1991)
    A3 1.8T sport (1997)A4 3.0 QST (2002)
    80 Coupe 2.6S (1995)A4 Cab 2.4 sport (2002) Another 2.6 '95 coupe in byzanz purple
    '88 type 89 90 saloon kv 5 pot A4 1.8T 2001
