Car is approaching 5 years old and 60K now, booked in on Friday for it's timing belt and water pump changed. I've been quoted £439 by the local VW dealership where the car was bought and serviced. They offered £420 using Non-VW parts (And a 1Y warranty rather than 2Y) ... got a similar price from an Indy.

Is this reasonable? I'd read on some other threads to expect about £350 - has the price of the parts shot up or something?

At the same time they'll be carrying out the 60K service, "checking" the injectors (Should they be replaced?) and also looking at my rear O/S door that won't open from the outside.

    Thanks in advance.

I had my Timing belt and water pump replaced at a vag specialist (BVR) for £245. Then they did a full longlife service for £130.

They should replace all 4 injectors if you havn't had them replaced before.

The VW price is correct if you are having the water pump as well, if you look on VW site they do do a fixed price one @ £320 iirc for older cars 3 years + but this doesn't incude the pump, the dealer has to be in the sceme so get the VW site up and look for a dealer that does the scheme and talk to him.

Just had a look http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/s...rice-servicing and they are quoting you the price already, you could go to GSF and get the kit and find a good indy that will fit it for you and probably get the total cost including the pump down to about £300, do the aux drive belts as well, but if it goes bang later you won't get the same back up as VW will provide if the parts failed prematurely.

A VW garage offering it with non genuine parts, surely that is against the rules of their dealership agreement?

They're taking the head off? Did they not do that when the cambelt came off?

Get your car out of there asap, it's obvious they don't know what they are doing, that or they are flanneling you because they can't give you an answer as to what they've done to your car.

I'm begining to wonder about VW service myself, my last visit I saw what looked like an immigrant chav with a I got job in England with nice cars look on his face, and I think he worked on my car, which since then hasn't been right imo.

Wanted master mechanic by VW dealer

Me mechanic, me very good mechanic, I fix I fix.....

Can you start Monday as we're very busy, you can show your papers later after you've f**ked up a 100 or so cars, but don't worry we'll deny it and they can pay for it.

Is this the point where the OP needs to call VW customer services or will that simply put all parties involved into covering-their-**** mode and make matters worse?
