Hi all. Bought myself an A4 (B8) 2.0 TDI SE (120) recently. Like most things about the car but have a few gripes now that I have been driving her for a couple of weeks. The car is under powered in the 120bhp variant but this can be resolved with a remap. However, what is really annoying me is the foot rest. I am actually getting a sore foot from pressing the clutch. The outer edge of my left foot keeps catching it every time I press the pedal and it is driving me nuts!!! I know this has been mentioned a while back but I didn’t see any resolutions to the issue. I have already managed to resolve the squeak from the driver’s door window area from the posts here, which was fantastic and proves how great these types of forums are but a resolution to this clutch would be a god send. My understanding is that Audi have tried to resolve this issue by removing the foot rest completely in the new models. I am starting to think I should have kept my VW 140bhp Touran as it had more power, was comfortable and seemed to be more economical. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I really hope they haven't removed the foot rest! I'm comfortable in my A4 now, had it 3.5 years and coming up to renewal ordering time. If they have removed the foot rest it'll be interesting how that affects comfort. I should be getting a test drive soon anyway. I don't think I ever noticed the pedal problem that much, though I wear pretty slim shoes these days. Driving an A4 in Doctor Martens may not be much fun I guess!

No doubt due to the offset pedals, sure you'll get used to it.

Chuno - are you the same person from the VX site?

Nick - sice I don't know which site you're on about, I'd have to say no! I don't have a constant username for forums anyway, I'm sure I just made this one up on a whim!

I loved the foot rests in my old Passat, plenty of footwell space and easy to drive what ever the shoes I had on. The A4 is cramped, made me think twice when I had my first B8, but I've settled into it over time. I think the key is not wearing wide shoes, mind you my size 11's don't seam to catch round the peddle though.

Also my Passat was brilliant of fuel, but that was due to my fitting a tuning box which mapped the engine to have peak torque at 70. I've done the same with mine now, and whilst it can be quick if I want, its the sweet spot at 70 for me, 64mpg on a run is common, 57mpg overall makes me a happy.

Thanks drmartin. As a side issue what made you go for a tuning box instead of a remap? I assumed they were less sophisticated to a remap but that is just an uneducated assumption on my part. I am only getting currently 40mpg combined and I don't drive her hard!

40mpg doesn't seem right in a 120 tdi. If its under warranty I would take it to the dealer. My 170 sits on about 42 on the long term DIS and i drive pretty hard occasionally with lots of short runs.
